Exclusive: According to Ookla, India rose two spots in the global rankings for median mobile speeds.

India increased mobile and fixed broadband speeds while decreasing fixed broadband speeds.

India’s ranking in terms of the global median mobile speeds improved from 66th in February to 64th in March 2023, according to Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index. India’s ranking for global fixed broadband speeds fell from 81st in February to 84th in March, though. The analysis also revealed the countries with the highest median fixed and mobile broadband speeds.

The Speedtest Global Index for March 2023 has been updated by Ookla, a pioneer in network information and connectivity insights globally. According to the survey, India moved up two positions in the global rankings for median mobile speeds, from 66th in February to 64th in March. In terms of overall fixed broadband speeds, India’s position has dropped from 81st in February to 84th in March.

Median download speeds

Ookla observed median mobile download speeds of 33.30 Mbps in March of this year, which is faster than the 31.04 Mbps recorded in February 2023, according to the research. The fixed median download speeds in India as a whole did, however, slightly decline from 50.87 Mbps in February to 50.71 Mbps in March.

Global Index

The performance of other nations is also highlighted by the March Speedtest Global Index. Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) saw the biggest jump in position, rising 19 ranks overall, but UAE maintained its top status as the country with the fastest worldwide median mobile speeds.

Vanuatu saw the biggest jump in position internationally for fixed median speeds, rising 16 ranks, while Singapore remained at the top. About 80 islands make up the country of Vanuatu in the South Pacific Ocean.

Monthly rankings of mobile and fixed broadband speeds are provided by Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index. The hundreds of millions of tests that consumers do using Speedtest each month to evaluate their Internet speed provide the data for the Global Index.
