DNA Finland launched 5G network in Multia, plans to expand to Central Finland.

DNA Finland has started rolling out its 5G network in Multia’s eastern area, with plans to build hundreds of 5G base stations throughout Central Finland by 2023. Customers may examine coverage maps on DNA’s website to see the potential maximum speed and frequency ranges for 4G and 5G networks in their neighborhood.

The eastern portion of Multia has seen the debut of DNA Finland’s 5G network, which now covers several tens of square kilometers to the south and north of Uuraistentie but not the town center. DNA Finland is a subsidiary of Telenor Group. The telco also intends to construct a large number of 5G base stations in Central Finland in 2023, including Jyvaskyla.

Network Planning and Implementation

Suomen Yhteisverkko, a joint network firm founded by DNA and Telia in 2014, is in charge of managing construction activities in the eastern half of the area. The Northern and Eastern regions of Finland’s mobile network are planned, implemented, and maintained by Suomen Yhteisverkko.

Customers can view the theoretical maximum speed and frequency bands for 4G and 5G networks in their area by looking at the coverage map on DNA’s website. According to DNA, various frequencies are used in the same area, and the terminal chooses the frequency that operates the best among them.

5G Network Frequencies

In Finland, DNA has predominantly constructed its 5G network utilizing either the higher 3.5 GHz frequency or the lower 700 MHz frequency. A quick, wide-ranging network coverage with strong indoor penetration is made possible by the lower frequency.

Lower Frequency Provides Coverage: The telco states that 5G networks on lower frequency bands typically extend several kilometers from the base station, depending on the terrain.

Higher Frequency provides Speeds: The higher frequency range, on the other hand, provides gigabit kind of connection speeds with low latency over a smaller coverage area.

The higher Frequency is typically utilized in metropolitan areas, whereas the lower Frequency is typically used in rural regions and towns with sparse populations.

Complete Network Upgradation

DNA stated in a statement that when new 5G networks are constructed, the whole mobile network is upgraded and that outdated base stations are swapped out for brand-new ones. Additionally, this enhances 4G speeds and consumer satisfaction in the improved locations. In many cases, 5G networks are a great replacement for fixed internet at home, enhancing competition and expanding the options accessible to Finns.

DNA’s 5G network currently covers 217 locations, reaching over 86% of Finns based on their place of residence, which amounts to nearly 4.8 million people. 5G services require a suitable device and subscription.
