BSNL for IoT applications

BSNL may now provide one lakh more M2M 13-digit cell phone numbers to its agency clients in the telecom circles of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, which includes Chennai. For those who do not know, telecom operators use 13-digit cellular numbers to provide eSIM playing cards for M2M (machine to machine) and IoT (Internet of Things) programs. These programs include data acquisition sensing, POS (point-of-sale) systems, smart advertisement panels, vehicle tracking, smart meters, and smart vehicles. For the IoT initiatives of the future age in India, DoT gave BSNL the authority to collect M2M numbers.

According to an official release, the DoT has chosen to assign the following 13-digit M2M numbering series in response to BSNL’s request for an extra one lakh 13-digit M2M numbering series in the LSAs of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

DoT has instructed BSNL to issue only 13-digit mobile numbers to new clients requesting M2M / IoT applications. DoT has also instructed all access service prodders to open the newly allocated 13-digit M2M series in all local exchanges, TDM TAX, IP-TAX, Soft Switches, Mobile MSC, GMSC and NGN switches under their jurisdiction.

BSNL M2M / IoT SIM Cards

IoT / M2M offerings are the ones that require conversation among or extra devices (machines) without the intervention of a human. As we said the remaining month, BSNL released new different eSIM tariff plans beginning from just ₹15/- for brand spanking new in addition to current company clients. Enterprise clients may also avail of eSIM with personal APN for IoT (Internet of Things) and M2M (Machine to Machine conversation) applications

Depending on the needs and uses of the user, BSNL will offer two different types of SIM cards for M2M and IoT applications.

1 Normal SIM (Physical SIM)
2 eSIM (SIM embedded in M2M smart devices)

Cost of M2M SIM Cards: e-SIM cards are given out for free, whereas physical SIM cards are priced at Rs. 10/-per SIM card.

What are eSIMs?

M2M devices have inbuilt e-SIMs. The device makers will upload the soft e-SIM profiles that BSNL will give on physical e-SIMs. The e-SIM manufacturer is chosen by the M2M service provider independently. The device manufacturer and M2M service provider will get soft e-SIM profiles from BSNL. The manufacturer will then burn the e-SIM profile into physical devices and send it to the M2M service provider.
