BSNL activated more than 11 lakh new mobile connections at a monthly growth rate of 1.27%

BSNL activated 11 lakh new mobile connections in October 2016.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has published the latest telecom subscription data for the month of October 2016. As per the latest report, state-run telecom major – BSNL activated more than 11 lakh new mobile connections and achieved a monthly growth rate of 1.27%.

BSNL – the fourth largest mobile operator in the country, holds a market share of 8.80% in October 2016. The
performance of BSNL in wireless subscriber addition and monthly growth
rate is continuously increasing from July 2015 on wards – after the
launch of FREE All India Roaming Scheme.

As on 31st October 2016, the private access service providers held 90.86% market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two PSUs access service providers, held only 9.14% market share.

The total number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1074.24 million at the end of September 2016 to 1102.94 million at the end of October 2016, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 2.67%.

Total wireless subscriber base increased from 1049.74 million at the end of September 2016 to 1078.42 million at the end of October 2016, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 2.73%.
TRAI Report Card October 2016: BSNL activated more than 11 lakh new mobile connections at a monthly growth rate of 1.27%

BSNL holds the No.1 position in Landline segment with 56.60% market share. Airtel holds the No.1 position in Broadband segment (Wired + Wireless) position with 22.05% market share and Vodafone at second position with 18.40% market share as on 31st October 2016.

The total number of broadband subscribers in India, increased from 192.30 million at the end of September 2016 to 218.42 million at the end of October 2016 with monthly growth rate of 13.59%. Top Five service providers constituted 80.36% market share of total broadband subscribers at the end of October 2016. These service providers were Bharti Airtel (48.17 million), Vodafone (40.19 million), Idea Cellular Ltd (29.76 million), Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (35.94 million) and BSNL (21.46 million).

In Wired Broadband segment, BSNL holds the No.1 position with 9.94 million customers, followed by Bharti Airtel with 1.95 million customers.

  1. Bharti Airtel (46.22 million)
  2. Vodafone (40.19 million)
  3. Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (35.94 million)
  4. Idea Cellular (29.76 million)
  5. Reliance Communications (16.95 million)

Mobile Number Portability (MNP)

In the month of October 2016, a total of 4.93 million subscribers submitted their requests for MNP. With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 239.46 million at the end of September 2016 to 244.39 million at the end of October 2016.
