As Per Latest Information the Kerala Government’s effort to install 2266 Wi-Fi hotspots would be implemented by BSNL.

BSNL to provide free Wi-Fi services in 14 districts.

The IT Mission awards the prestigious contract of Rs 57 crore to BSNL Kerala Telecom Circle to implement the government of Kerala’s public Wi-Fi initiative. Public access to government websites and services will be completely free.

In collaboration with M/s Quadgen, BSNL will offer WiFi services in all 14 districts. This project has 2266 WiFi hotspots intended for public locations such bus stops, train stations, colleges, civic stations, libraries, parks, and other significant government buildings, among others.

The general public can obtain internet speeds of up to 30Mbps using any smartphone, tablet, or laptop. The public will receive 300MB of free data, but after that limit has been reached, government services will still be accessible.

Under this project, all Government departments / autonomous institutions like the LSG, Akshaya Centres etc should share their premises and infrastructure such as necessary space, street poles, electricity etc and issue required permissions for the setting up and maintenance of WiFi hotspots, free of cost. KSEB shall provide new electricity connections and Right of Way (RoW) permissions for laying OFC (Optical Fiber Cable) through KSEB poles on priority for the purpose of public WiFi project.
