BSNL and Nokia collaborate to develop 5G ecosystem.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), one of India’s top public service providers, and Nokia have teamed together to support the growth of the 5G ecosystem there. As was well known, BSNL and Nokia signed an MoU on the exchange of 5G information.

5G technology enables service providers to address the rising network needs of connected devices used in the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart cities by enabling exceptionally high internet speeds and extremely low latency.

In order to get ready for the future generation of communications networks, we are happy to join with Nokia, said Shri. Anupam Shrivastava, CMD of BSNL. In order to make the transition to 5G and be in a position to fully utilize IoT, we are eager to use Nokia’s technology and 5G thought leadership. According to BSNL, the telecommunications sector is still developing the technology that will bring the advantages of 5G that we anticipate, hence it’s critical to build focused research initiatives with top international telecom OEMs like Nokia. We anticipate that 5G will substantially improve mobile networks’ throughput, resilience, and most importantly, intelligence.

Nokia will assist in BSNL’s seamless transition to a 5G-ready network. Nokia’s 5G-ready product range and expertise will be used by BSNL to create creative use cases for business and retail customers. Nokia will assist BSNL in assessing and optimizing the spectrum in order to fulfill the promise of 5G.

On March 29, 2017, BSNL and Nokia held a workshop on the 5G domain at the BSNL Corporate Office to build knowledge and a road plan for 5G readiness on the BSNL network. Presentations on 5G and public safety were given by Mr. Amit Marwah of NSN India and Ms. Sandrine Legrand of NSN China.

The head of Nokia’s India business, Mr. Sanjay Malik, stated: “We are thrilled to join with BSNL to create the 5G ecosystem for the Indian market and get ready for the next generation of mobile networks. This is consistent with the government of India’s objective to strengthen the digital infrastructure in order to promote economic growth. To help BSNL upgrade its networks, we will draw on our expertise working on projects and partnerships throughout the globe in the 5G business.

A wide range of opportunities are made possible by the fast speed and low latency of 5G, including remote healthcare, virtual reality, augmented reality, linked autos, and complete home and business automation. In order to increase speed and capacity, Nokia and BSNL will strive to identify the most efficient and affordable path for network progression to 5G.
