According to the August 2016 TRAI Report Card, BSNL surpassed all commercial operators in terms of growth rate and net subscriber addition to become India’s fourth-largest mobile provider.

BSNL has become the No. 1 operator in terms of monthly growth rate and net acquisition of new users.

The most recent information on telecom subscriptions as of August 31, 2016, was made available by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). With a market share of 8.98%, the nation’s fourth-largest mobile provider is the state-owned telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

In August 2016, BSNL surpassed all other commercial operators, including Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea, to become the No. 1 operator in terms of monthly growth rate and net acquisition of new users. According to the most recent data, BSNL increased its mobile client base by more than 16.46 lakh, boosting its market share from 8.77% to 8.98%.

When compared to the industry average of -0.52%, BSNL’s excellent monthly growth rate was 1.82%. In June 2016, BSNL rose to the fifth-largest mobile services provider in the nation, as we previously reported. After the launch of the FREE All India Roaming Scheme in July 2015, BSNL’s performance in terms of wireless subscriber addition and monthly growth rate has been steadily improving.

Performance of BSNL in Adding Wireless Subscribers

As of August 31, 2016, private access service providers owned 90.67% of the market share for wireless users, compared to 9.33% for BSNL and MTNL, the two PSU access service providers.

With a monthly growth rate of -0.52%, the overall number of phone users in India decreased from 1058.85 million at the end of July 2016 to 1053.40 million at the end of August 2016.

At the end of August 2016, there were 1028.88 million wireless customers, down from 1034.23 million at the end of July, with a monthly growth rate of -0.52%.

With the exception of Andhra Pradesh (-6,297) and Karnataka (-66,158), all BSNL units had positive increase in wireless customer addition during July 2016. Punjab (+1,05,828), UP East (+3,54,317), Haryana (+2,85835), UP West (+60,581), Rajasthan (+51,572), Kerala (+47,857), and Punjab (+5,828) are the top-performing states.
With a 56.80% market share in the landline industry, BSNL is the market leader. As of the end of August 2016, Airtel held the top spot in the broadband sector (Wired + Wireless) with a market share of 26.41%, followed by Vodafone with 20.39%.

With a monthly growth rate of 2.84%, the total number of broadband users in India climbed from 166.96 million at the end of July 2016 to 171.71 million at the end of August 2016.

At the end of August 2016, the top five service providers accounted for 85.16% of all broadband users. Bharti Airtel (45.35 million subscribers), Vodafone (35.01 million), Idea Cellular Ltd (29.58 million), BSNL (21.04 million), and Reliance Communications Group (15.24 million) were the service providers.

With 9.84 million users, BSNL occupies the top spot in the wired broadband market, followed by Bharati Airtel with 1.91 million.

Portability of Mobile Numbers (MNP)

5.13 million customers in total requested MNP for the month of August 2016. So, from 229.34 million at the end of July 2016 to 234.47 million at the end of August 2016, the total number of MNP requests grew.
