Exclusive: BSNL has introduced Bharat Air Fibre Services to deliver internet, phone, and IPTV in rural India.

BSNL seeks franchisees to rollout Bharat Air Fiber (Wireless Broadband) Services all over India

The largest fixed line provider in India, BSNL, is seeking franchisees to roll out Bharat Air Fiber Services across the country. In support of the Indian government’s Digital India plans, BSNL has introduced Bharat Air Fiber services, which are intended to offer wireless broadband access within a 20 km radius of BSNL facilities.

Getting fiber broadband or even wired broadband in remote or rural areas of India is a difficult task as there may be few carriers offering services in these areas. To solve this problem of connecting rural areas in India, our public operator BSNL launched Bharat Air Fiber Services. BSNL Bharat Air Fiber will provide broadband, voice and IPTV services to rural households, distinct from the company’s Bharat Fiber FTTH service, where users use landline and for urban households.

What is BSNL Bharat Air Fiber Service?

A wireless, or more specifically a radio-based last mile telecom connectivity option, is the BSNL Bharat Air Fibre service. It employs less-interfering unlicensed airwaves (spectrum that is not licensed to any company) to offer internet service. Line-of-sight radio waves are also used to distribute the service. Since Wi-Fi routers and other appliances like microwave ovens are less often used in rural areas, there is relatively little interference in these wavelengths.

Bharat Air Fiber is entirely wireless and provides internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps up to 5 km, with the potential for beyond distances depending on the air medium and range. In order to use this Bharat Air Fiber Service to link customers across all terrains of the nation, BSNL is actively pursuing it and has introduced new regulations with plenty of flexibility.

BSNL Bharat Air Fiber service can be provided in two different ways: – 1) Point to Point and 2) Point to Multi Point.

BSNL’s integration policies with regard to the Bharat Air Fiber Service

To entice additional Franchisee partners to BSNL, an open policy based on revenue sharing has been developed. RF base stations and related equipment are being deployed and operated by partners with CAPEX and OPEX on their part on a non-exclusive basis under an open policy that has been approved by BSNL to deliver Broadband / Voice on last mile over Radio Frequency Technology on the unlicensed band.

Integrating Bharat Air Fiber: The Process

Partners are responsible for funding the design, construction, and operation of the system used to deliver high-speed voice and broadband services using RF technology. Shared revenue is handled using the current FTTH prepaid wallet method. BSNL has released an open policy for enlisting Radio Broadband Service Partners (RBSP) to deliver broadband and voice services using unlicensed radio spectrum.

For the purpose of establishing Bharat Air Fibre services on a revenue-share basis, all FTTH Partners (LCOs/TIPs/MSOs) are welcome to join BSNL. As with third party OLTs, all AP/Radio devices owned by franchisees are directly connected with BNGs. Similar to regular FTTH, the network deployment and related authentication routines are used. The FMS system will be used to handle franchisee operations for this service, and it will include features like an e-wallet and income sharing. Getting new FTTH subscribers is comparable to getting new ones for Bharat Air Fiber. Customers can choose from exclusive Bharat Air Fiber plans.
