Safaricom, Kenya’s largest telecom company, has increased 5G coverage to 28 cities across 21 counties. Safaricom has also developed specialized 5G data packages for owners of 5G mobile devices.

  • Safaricom has provided 5G data packages with customizable settings in accordance with use.
  • Three 5G experience centers were built in Nairobi by Safaricom and Huawei to highlight the smart features accessible to both households and businesses.

Safaricom, Kenya’s largest telecom company, has increased 5G coverage to 28 cities across 21 counties. At home, at work, and while traveling, Safaricom users will have access to lightning-fast internet anywhere 5G service is available.

To further enable the nearly 400,000 users using 5G devices to surf at lightning-fast rates of 400 Mbps to 700 Mbps, Safaricom has introduced 5G data packages that give customizable alternatives based on consumption. These users may access Tunukiwa via the My Safaricom App,, or USSD *444# or *544# to purchase the customized 5G bundles.

According to a statement released by Safaricom, “as a digital lifestyle enabler, we are excited about a 5G future.” It allows for the bridging of the digital gap in marginalized regions, access to essential services like healthcare, and the promotion of economic growth by opening up new options for small enterprises. By expanding 5G coverage, we improve Kenya’s top internet network and give our users more flexibility to begin exploring 5G’s potential.

Users can use 5G Wi-Fi in 5G zones.

Additionally, 5G Wi-Fi makes it possible for both residential and commercial customers to connect to the network in 5G zones. Customers may access the website to view a map of 5G zones or utilize the 5G Wi-Fi.

5G Experience centres

To provide Kenyans an opportunity to explore how 5G can change their homes and places of employment, Safaricom and Huawei established three 5G experience centers in Nairobi. The Village Market, The Hub, and Buruburu Shops are where you may find these facilities, which also have speed testing stations and virtual reality gaming spaces.

First Telco to Launch 5G in Kenya. In Kenya, Safaricom will start providing 5G in October 2022. It now includes 28 towns in 21 counties, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Mombasa, Kisumu, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Garissa, Kajiado, Kisii, Machakos, Kakamega, Kilifi, Siaya, Kericho, Kwale, Laikipia, Marsabit, Meru, Narok, Nyeri, and Vihiga.
