Kudos to Team BSNL, The state-run telecom major reported EBITDA positive after a gap of more than 3 years!

After a gap of more than three years, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has recorded EBITDA positive. The PSU recorded positive profits before interest, taxes, and depreciation (EBITDA) for the half year ending September 30, 2020, according to the most recent data.

The PSU is currently concentrating on cutting spending and improving operating profitability by offering top-notch services to its respected clients all throughout the country following the successful deployment of VRS for more than 80,000 employees last year. On September 21, 2020, BSNL was able to raise more over 8,500 crore using sovereign-guaranteed bonds. The bond was oversubscribed twice, and 229 bids totalling Rs. 17,183 crores were submitted.

The bonds were sold with a 10-year term and a coupon rate of 6.79 percent annually. Along with the Cabinet’s approval of the BSNL Revival package, the raising of Rs 8,500 crores in Government Guaranteed Bonds was also approved.

Strategic Assets of India: MTNL and BSNL

The government has previously declared that MTNL and BSNL are critical assets of India, making their privatization impossible. Most government departments, including the armed forces, have their communication needs met by BSNL and MTNL. These PSUs also satisfy the core banking network requirement for the majority of Banks and Financial Institutions. Both BSNL and MTNL, which are controlled by the Indian government, are reputable service providers. BSNL also has a sizable rural network. The government has announced a four-way revival plan for BSNL and MTNL, which was launched with a voluntary retirement scheme last year, with around 80,000 BSNL staff and 14,000 MTNL employees choosing to participate. The revitalization package calls for the temporary monetization of assets worth Rs. 38,000 crores.

Mandatory use of BSNL & MTNL Services in Government Institutions

BSNL is executing prestigious projects of Government of India which include – Bharat Net, NFS project for Défense forces, submarine cable project and several other projects of significance. The trust of the government in BSNL stands reinforced by the recent decision to mandatorily use BSNL services for central and state government establishments all over India. DoT in its letter dated 12th October 2020, addressed to secretaries of all ministries / departments of Government of India instructed for the mandatory utilization of telecom services offered by BSNL/MTNL. DoT recommended to use internet, broadband, landline and leased line service of BSNL/MTNL in all central & state government departments and public sector units.

Customer acceptance of BSNL Bharat Fiber (FTTH) is increasing…

In the FTTH market, where the PSU was able to install more than 5 lakh new Bharat Fiber (FTTH) connections in just 5 months, BSNL exceeded 1 million user bases, as we previously reported. It indicates that BSNL is expanding the number of Bharat Fiber (FTTH) Broadband connections by around 1 lakh with the aid of LCOs, MSOs, and TIPs. All of the country may now have BSNL fiber broadband services. The recent drop in FTTH pricing plans has further enhanced the customers’ growing desire for BSNL FTTH.

BSNL’s New Bharat Fiber (FTTH) Plans

Customers may now choose from BSNL Bharat Fiber plans beginning at Rs 449/- and receive guaranteed bandwidth and premium service quality. The entry-level FTTH package from BSNL, Fiber Basic, costs Rs. 449 and offers 30 Mbps download speed and 3.3TB of usage, while Fiber Basic Plus, priced at Rs. 599, offers 60 Mbps download speed and 3.3TB of usage. In the Rs 777 (500GB CUL Plan) and Rs 799 (Fiber Value Plan) BSNL FTTH plans, customers may take advantage of 100Mbps download speed. In their Fiber Premium and Fiber Ultra plans, respectively, BSNL offers 200 Mbps and 300 Mbps download speeds. All Bharat Fiber plans include unlimited phone calls at no extra cost to BSNL users. Additionally, many BSNL plans allow subscribers to subscribe to Disney+Hotstar Premium.

For clients who need BSNL Bharat Fiber connections, BSNL has already introduced a special website called Book My Fiber. The ‘My BSNL App’ also has the ability to signup for BSNL Bharat Fiber (FTTH). Customers may now register for BSNL Bharat Fiber (FTTH) connections across India using either the Book My Fiber Portal or the My BSNL mobile app.
